So, it's a New Year and though I don't entirely believe in resolutions I can see the benefit of having something to aim for. Last year I managed about 35,000 miles in the car, 5 new countries, the interesting experience of driving on the continent and a lot more besides. I also changed jobs twice, the first one reducing my miles drastically but turning out to be exceedingly dull. The second change having the potential to put me on big miles again but currently repeating the same journey again and again.
Couple of travelling regrets from last year. Maybe not regrets but definitely things that didn't happen quite as I would like:
- Despite travelling a fair amount, I failed miserably in spotting (and taking photos of) football grounds, careless really as I went near so many but either couldn't be bothered with a few extra miles or more often, completely forgot.
- Didn't get to go to America. I really enjoyed my road trip around Europe at Easter but it wasn't as good as normal Easter. the driving was perhaps more fun but to me, Europe is a bit dull and US and Canada are not. Not sure what it is, but it is.
So, my aims for this year are as follows:
- Visit/drive past (and photograph) at least 20 UK Football league stadiums. Shouldn't be too difficult. Just have to take advantage of the opportunities that present themselves.
- Visit one country I have never been to before. This one will be more difficult, I think the nearest are Denmark, Iceland and Andorra. Having got so many of the easier ones this year, I might actually have to put some effort in to logic my way to somewhere new.
- Go to the USA or Canada again. This one will come down to finances, simple as that. I know the household can afford and justify one holiday this year but I suspect my dearly beloved wants that to be somewhat cheap and hot. USA or Canada would end up being an additional one later in the year if it happens at all. Fingers and toes crossed.
- Blog more. Easy to do, just need something to write about, but managing aim number one would be a good start!!
